Sooo... last night I couldn't resist the shiny any further and I started making another book. This time I managed to avoid some of the pitfalls that got me last time, and I'm also planning to use some different fabric this time- the offcut of an obi that I bought at the Dazaifu flea market on Sunday.

It's all white and gold and shiny and I'm hoping it'll look as awesome as I hope it will.

I spent some time angsting about how I was going to cut down my book block (given that my last attempt resulted in uneven pages, a cut thumb, and blood on the pages of my book...) and was even planning on cycling madly around all the copy shops in the area trying out my Japanese for "PLEASE GOD LET ME USE YOUR HYDRAULIC PAPER CUTTER!" but in the end Helen suggested clamping my ruler, book block and cutting board to the table, and using my craft knife to cut the pages. Considering half my trouble last time was slippage, and the other half of the trouble was that my cutter didn't have a flat bottom, I reckoned it was worth a try... and WOW i have the shiniest book block in the world ever (well, give or take a few little bumps here).

So it's sitting in the press now, waiting for me to get home so i can put the fabric on the cover. I cannot *wait*. :D
