Aquariuuuuuuum! Aquarium!
1 comments on my sanity

Listening to: Marin in her wheel
Mood: GLEE

At the weekend, while gardening, I was seized with an almost uncontrollable desire for one of those awesome chinese egg pots, with a water lily in it and possibly a goldfish.

I would have settled for almost any size of ceramic pot with the correct glazing, and any bog or water plants. However I was thwarted. Not one suitable ceramic pot could I find, and my local DIY shop seems to have done away with their water plant section right when I bloody wanted it!

In high dudgeon I went on to the next DIY store... and it was the same story. So I drowned my sorrows in buying aquarium plants for the Giant Aquarium of DOOM that I have set up in the science room at school.

So there I was, a happy little selection of aquarium plants in a bag, and I headed back towards school, stopping at the recycle shop to see if THEY had a suitable ceramic pot. They didn't, but they did have a gorgeous fishbowl, with feet.

At which point my brain went "OMG!!"

But i restrained myself on the grounds that a beautiful fishbowl and a bike and an expressway does not a bag of unbroken glass make, and continued on my merry way.

Then I passed "Nakamura furnishings", a place I usually avoid because it is full of horrific furniture and weird bits of crap that most people would avoid like the plague. But maybe THEY would have a suitable pot?

They didn't. But they had a simply stunning lily vase, about half a metre tall.

I bought it. I couldn't resist. And I stole the plants that I had intended for the aquarium at school and selfishly brought them home, and planted a water garden in the vase.

And it looked kickass.

But then... then...
I remembered the gorgeous fish we had seen in the pet shop in Tenjin. And the squee attack I had over the tiny little stripy shrimp.

I knew that I could not rest until I had little stripy shrimp in my vase.

Today we went to buy them.

We have Jesper, the gorgeous neon blue betta, and Don, Don, Glenn, Joe and Tim the Crystal Red Shrimp (golden internets if you know who they're named after without Googling ;)), who zooooooom around and do this neat pinging thing when Jesper gets too close to them and they think he is going to eat them.

Maybe he is going to eat them. I'm not sure. I will be counting those shrimp every day, because I adore them more than I should adore 5 tiny stripy shrimp less than 1 centimetre long.

Helen and I just sat there for about an hour watching them like TV.
