Well I finally finished reading Jane Eyre (again) and it only took me three weeks. I couldn't resist reading a whole chunk tonight despite having other things to do... I had to read all the St John Rivers bits together because St John makes me laugh with his utter idiocy, and Jane's reaction to it, both in conversation with him and narration.
"She likes you, I am sure," said I, as I stood behind his chair, "and her father respects you. Moreover, she is a sweet girl -- rather thoughtless; but you would have sufficient thought for both yourself and her. You ought to marry her."
"DOES she like me?" he asked.
"Certainly; better than she likes any one else. She talks of you continually: there is no subject she enjoys so much or touches upon so often."
"It is very pleasant to hear this," he said -- "very: go on for another quarter of an hour." And he actually took out his watch and laid it upon the table to measure the time.
Having been wowed once more by Jane Eyre, I think it might be time to re-read my other favourite book, "The City and The Stars". One of those things I have to do occasionally.
In other news, today we had a potato party (at which the potatoes were eaten rather than being allowed to drink punch and dance as I tried to convince the kids) and tomorrow we are going on a school trip to a park/zoo thing.
It's suddenly freezing here :(
Though possibly not *as* freezing as the UK.
